Sue (Ferrari) Herman is a long term Melvindale resident. She was widowed after a 42 year marriage to her husband, Don. She worked for Blue Cross Blue Shield for 40 years in many capacities, retiring as a Technical Consultant.
As President of Kiwanis, she brought SAFETY TOWN to Melvindale in 1997, and is proud of the thirteen years of teaching safety to pre-school children since then. Current volunteer activities (in addition to Kiwanis and Safety Town) include assistance at New Hope Methodist Church Food Pantry, and delivery of Meals on Wheels.
She serves on the City of Melvindale Finance Committee, and is liaison to the Library Commission and Commission on Aging. She was a member of the Charter Commission, approved by the voters in 2002.
When elected in 2003, Sue established weekly office hours at City Hall to be available to citizens, and has continued to make herself available to citizens. During her term of office, she assisted City staff with inventory, vendor problems, purchase negotiations (particularly with computer systems and software) and insurance selections.
Sue was head of the Pastoral Council for the Archdiocese of Detroit in 1995 and 1996. She was a very active member of St. Conrad Catholic Church (now closed), where her ministries included President, Secretary of the Pastoral Council, Festival Chair, Worship Commission Chair, Funeral Minister, Choir Member, Cantor, and Lector. She is now a member of St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church. She is also an associate member of the Servants of Jesus (servantsofjesusmi.org).
